Spousal Sponsorship

Canadian citizens or permanent residents who meet the Eligibility for Spousal Sponsorship can sponsor their spouse, common-law or conjugal partner to become permanent residents of Canada.

  • Who is eligible to sponsor their spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner?

    To be eligible as a sponsor, you must be :-

    • At lease 18 years of age.

    • Be a Canadian Citizen or a Permanent resident of Canada. (please note that Canadian Citizens living outside of Canada must have the intention of moving to Canada when the Spouse becomes a permanent resident. Also note that Permanent Canadian Citizens living outside Canada cannot sponsor their Canada Immigration Spousal Sponsorship.)

    • Not receive any kind of social assistance for any reason other than disability.

    • Be able to provide for the basic needs of their Requirements for Spousal Sponsorship Canada.

    • Be financially responsible for a minimum of 3 years after the spouse becomes a Permanent Resident Canada Spousal Sponsorship.
  • Who is eligible to be sponsored?

    • Spouse – A spouse can be of either sex and must be at least 18 years of age and be legally married to the sponsor.

    • Common-law partner – A common-law partner can be of either sex and must not be legally married to the sponsor, be at least 18 years of age and must have been living with the sponsor for at least 12 months preceding the application.

    • Conjugal partner – A conjugal partner can be of either sex and must not be legally married to the sponsor, be at least 18 years of age, be in a relationship with the sponsor for a minimum of 12 months, be living outside Canada.
